Warriors of the Sky

This is the first posting in a series of an oral history project about the warriors of the famous 510th Fighter Squadron in WWII. Known then as "Jenkins' Jerry Junkers," after the well-liked commander, Ralph Jenkins. This endeavor is two-fold: to broaden my knowledge of WWII military aviation and to highlight the courageous undertakings of some of America's finest aviators and support personnel. At the completion of this project I hope to be able to publish these amazing stories in book form for the public.
As a fighter pilot in the 510th, I have a personal interest in the colorful history of my squadron. I'm captivated by their unique stories and often hilarious memories of their travels and campaigns in Europe.
I'll start the project by compiling interviews (done personally or on the phone) and posting my initial hacks at writing on this site. Please feel free to post comments and questions following my updates. I realize that this project is a large one--and I'll only be able to shed just a small amount of light on the rich history of the squadron.
